Capturing the Essence of the British Countryside.........

I combine my passion for nature, wood and art, to create beautiful hanging wall plaques depicting scenes of local wildlife. I take inspiration from the nature and scenery around me during my daily walks with my two dogs as we follow the countryside footpaths. There are so many places to see wildlife, including the Eyebrook Reservoir and Rutland Water with their migrating birds and wildfowl. Woodlands such as Fineshade and Prior's coppice are favourite haunts,

ever changing throughout the seasons.

ART ON WOOD

Firstly, I select my piece of wood from the local saw mill chosing one with interesting grain, bark and knots which will contribute to developing the chosen subject.

I then shape and sand the surface ready for the pyrography, which involves burning in outlines and details to give depth and texture - this is the most time consuming part of the process, please read the 'About Pyrography' page for full details. Relief carving and use of paint are often necessary to finally bring the subject matter to life. Each piece is varnished for long term protection and comes ready for hanging.

If you have a subject you would like to commission, such as an animal, pet or landscape, I can create this on a wooden plaque or furniture and, if desired, work from a photograph of your choice.

OIL PORTRAITS

I have enjoyed the challenge of painting portraits in oils since I first painted my self portrait at the age of 17. Many subsequent commissions over the years have refined my technique. Each canvas comes unframed and prices depend on their size and the number of subjects.

PET PORTRAITS

I can paint a portrait of your pet or a group of pets in oils, working from your own photographs. All you need to do is send me your pictures . My aim as always is to bring them to life and reflect their characters

I prefer, where possible, to meet the subject before working from a photograph, in order to capture their character.
